Quick Wins for Healthy Eating – Preface
I feel blessed that I made the connection between food and health—two essential elements of optimal living—before ailments or disease had a chance to rob me of a good quality of life. Because I’m passionate about food and health, it tends to be the subject of many of my conversations, both personally and professionally. I have many family members and girlfriends who are battling poor eating habits and chronic disease. I have students, wellness coaching clients, and wellness workshop attendees fighting the same uphill battle. I notice strangers struggling to climb stairs, to bend and lift light packages, or walk short distances when they shouldn’t be. I believe the key to taking charge of your life and creating a future built on a strong body and boundless potential is making the connection between your food and your health. I know from personal experience that once you really “get” the role of food in the body and make a commitment to live your best life - the rest of the journey is simple. The struggle over what to eat ceases. The helplessness over maintaining a healthy weight vanishes. The uncertainty of how to ensure your kids have the best chance at a happy, healthy, and productive life is diminished.
Instead, what you’ll feel is empowerment.
Quick Wins is written for busy women who care about their health and the health of their families. In this book, you’ll find what I know to be the easiest and most effective strategies for making the connection between food and health. Without this connection, obesity and poor health may be unavoidable. To put it simply, if we want any shot at reclaiming a healthy future—for ourselves and our children—we have to learn how to eat a traditional diet while living in a modern world. I’m concerned with how destructive the simple act of eating has become over recent decades. It’s time for us to slow down, just a little bit, and refocus on nurturing ourselves and our families. “Family” includes our kids, spouses and signicant others, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and our friends. Until we direct some of our energy toward eating the right foods for our health and happiness, we’ll simply continue to pass on our destructive eating patterns to our children.
