The Book
Food nourishes futures.
What are YOU doing to protect your health and the health of your kids?
It’s frightening. Obesity and obesity-related diseases like high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers are growing at an alarming rate, especially among children. As a result, 2/3 of adults are overweight or obese and our children are following in our footsteps. The problem isn’t that parents don’t want better for their children. It’s that in today’s hectic world where both parents work and money is tight, fast food and other unhealthy eating choices are simply easier and cheaper. Plus, many adults have their own weight issues – making eating healthy a real challenge.
Created by blogger, nutrition educator, wellness coach, and mom Tonya Peele, this revolutionary new approach to healthy eating focuses on 9 easy-to-make changes—called Quick Wins—that lead to big results and will help you (and your family) combat obesity, fend off obesity-related diseases, and reduce your reliance on fast food and highly processed food.
Quick Wins for Healthy Eating also includes:
- Inspirational quotes to keep you motivated
- Tips to make your transition to healthy eating easier
- Checklists for stocking a healthy pantry
- Links to easy-to-make, healthy recipes
- Journal pages to track your progress and much more

I’ve been working in the field of obesity for the past eight years: first in genetics research at GlaxoSmithKline pharmaceuticals, then later as a community educator on preschool fitness and nutrition, and finally as a public health obesity researcher interested in the social and environmental determinants of the disease. These varied roles have given me a keen awareness that healthy living and eating isn’t a “personal” choice. It is an ACTIVE attitude of families- and collectively their communities- to overcome the barriers of our busy lifestyles to improve our lives from the inside out.
Tonya’s book Quick Wins is both sincere and motivational in providing practical strategies of achieving this goal based on her personal journey and successes with improved nutrition and weight. I’ve recommended the book to all the women in my family for the holidays and highly encourage others to do the same.
Happy Holidays and Healthy Eating!

They say that big successes start with small steps. Tonya’s book starts you on those small steps to making big progress in your own health and well-being. She has a remarkable ability to explain in simple relatable terms with examples from her own life and her family’s lives. This book explains steps to help you improve your diet and lifestyle so that you will feel significantly healthier and will have a healthier future.
If you are looking for a book that will motivate you, inspire you, and help you implement a healthier lifestyle, Quick Wins for Healthy Eating is for you! In the book, Tonya Peele, not only discusses “the big four” (high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer), but details the effects each disease can have on you, your family, and our society. More importantly, Tonya discusses changes that we can all make to prevent these diseases. Some of my favorite moments in the book are when Tonya discusses the effect convenience food is having on our families, her own childhood issues with weight, and what each of us can do to ensure today’s youth grow up with access to healthy food options – something each of us should be doing!
I just received a copy of your book. I have always been clueless on how to make healthy decisions on eating habits. I like the style you have in your book. I do feel “empowered” to make the change!
Hello Tonya,
Congratulations on the book! I’ve been reading it; and I love the way your writing style connects to ‘everyday’ living. Your short stories, examples and tips make it easy for anyone to relate to situations they might be facing as they try to better themselves and improve their eating habits. In essence, you are coaching them as they read. Great concept! Much success to you.

WoW, what a great way to start 2011. I purchased “Quick Wins For Healthy Eating” towards the latter part of December. This piece of work is educational, entertaining and very enlightening! Kudos to Tonya M Peele. As a middle-aged grandmother, I am thankful for these “quick wins” which will enable me to maintain my “Hottie Grannie” status.
I read with interest how Quick Wins shows us how to create wonderful meals that are good for the body as they are for the soul. It offers expertise in a lively and engaging kind of way that is filled with innovative and enticing recipes and advice for a better body, life, and spirit. Thank you for making this excellent material available to us!

Tonya, you have opened my eyes to what I was raised to believe was healthy eating. I was taught first of all to eat everything that was on my southern-filled plate. Secondly, that no one would think I was a good cook unless my food was well seasoned (southern pork), and thirdly that no southern man would marry me unless the food I cooked was filled either with fat, sugar or sodium. Believe it or not lastly, I was taught to believe that unless you were a chubby child, you were not cute nor healthy. Thank you Tonya for providing information through your dynamic book of the health risk and of the small changes I can make each day to improve the quality of my life. Most of all, thank you for the info that I can pass on to the next generation.
Experiencing a new journey!
